Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received Deputy Head of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee and Vice President of the State of Palestine Hussein al-Sheikh. Abdelatty emphasized that Egypt is steadfast in its mediation efforts to resume a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, in collaboration with Qatar and the United States.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the foreign minister highlighted Egypt's ongoing efforts to facilitate the safe and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, where conditions continue to deteriorate. Abdelatty expressed Egypt's firm opposition to Israel's alleged use of starvation as a collective punishment tactic against civilians.
The Official Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry, Tamim Khallaf, noted that Abdelatty welcomed Sheikh on his inaugural visit to Egypt in his new capacity and reiterated Egypt's unwavering support for the Palestinian National Authority. Discussions included strategies for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, aligning with an Arab-Islamic plan.
In this context, Abdelatty discussed preparations for an international conference focused on the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, which will be co-hosted by Egypt in partnership with the United Nations and the Palestinian government. Khallaf further mentioned Abdelatty's emphasis on the necessity of establishing a concrete political framework to achieve the two-state solution, advocating for an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with al-Quds as its capital.
Sheikh expressed his profound appreciation for Egypt's role in supporting the Palestinian people and acknowledged the country's mediation efforts to reinstate the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
