Egyptian Doctor Wins ‘Emerging Researcher – International Track’ Award

Amman: Egyptian doctor Mina Sedrak from the University of California's Johnson Comprehensive Cancer Center has won the 'Emerging Researcher - International Track' award as part of the King Hussein Awards for Cancer Research in its fifth edition for 2025, marking a new achievement for Egyptian scientific research on the global stage. This came during a ceremony held in the Jordanian capital Amman, where Prince Talal bin Mohammed honored the award recipients.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the award is considered one of the most significant research-support initiatives in the region. This year, it recognized an elite group of scientists selected from among hundreds of applicants. A specialized scientific committee chose the winners from 205 researchers representing 26 countries, in appreciation of their contributions to advancing cancer research and scientific progress.

In her speech during the ceremony, Princess Ghida Talal, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) and Center (KHCC), said that when the King Hussein Cancer Research Award was launched five years ago, there was a vision of an Arab world with a firmly established presence in global scientific research. This vision has become a reality due to the efforts of many talented Arab minds, she noted. The Arab world is now fully engaged in global cancer research, creating a movement led by bright minds shaping the future of science.

Over the past five years, the award has reaffirmed its commitment to placing cancer research at the forefront of regional priorities. It has brought together nearly 900 researchers and scientists from around the world and funded eight innovative research projects for promising early-career researchers, according to her.
