Innovative Solutions Needed to Balance Quality and Sustainability in Healthcare Institutions

Cairo: Board Chairman of the Ministry of Health and Population's Curative Organization, Mohamed Shaqweer, emphasized the importance of finding innovative solutions to balance quality and sustainability in healthcare institutions. The organization chief was speaking during a panel discussion on medical training and sustainability of medical services, with the participation of a select group of experts and the officials concerned, held on Friday as part of the 3rd edition of the Global Congress on Population, Health, and Human Development (PHDC'25), hosted by Egypt from November 12 to 15.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Shaqweer called for a model that relies on operational sustainability, revenue diversification, and investment partnerships. He highlighted the key pillars of such a model, which include operational excellence, cost intelligence, revenue diversification, and leveraging technology. In a statement, the health ministry stressed that enabling healthcare institutions to optimize their resources and enhance their private-sector partnerships would contribute to better efficiency and quality, in line with the principles of sound governance and smart resource management.

Participants discussed how to enhance the efficiency of self-funded public hospitals and create sustainable partnerships with the private sector. Discussions also covered the challenges of the self-funded government-run hospital model, sustainability requirements for medical services, diversifying income sources, enhancing operational efficiency, and engaging investors in improving the public health sector. Participants supported the ministry's vision for the sustainability of health services through a balanced financial and operational model that ensures compliance with the highest quality standards and sustainable self-financing.

The 3rd edition of the Global Congress on Population, Health, and Human Development (PHDC'25) is held under the theme 'Empowering People... Advancing Progress... Expanding Opportunities.'
