Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali al Yahya have affirmed their categorical rejection of Israel's unilateral step to recognize Somaliland. During a phone call, the two top diplomats underscored their firm commitment to supporting Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and backing its legitimate institutions, considering such moves a clear violation of international law and the UN Charter, as well as a direct threat to the foundations of stability in the Horn of Africa region.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty highlighted the depth of the fraternal and historic relations between Egypt and Kuwait at all levels. He emphasized the shared keenness to advance bilateral cooperation in economic, trade, and investment fields, building on the positive momentum generated by high-level mutual visits to serve the common interests of the two brotherly peoples.
The discussion also covered developments in the Gaza Strip, with Abdelatty reviewing Egypt's efforts to consolidate the ceasefire and ensure its sustainability. He also discussed moving forward with commitments related to the next phase, including support for the political track, ensuring full access for humanitarian assistance, and creating necessary conditions for early recovery and reconstruction. Abdelatty underscored firm rejection of any measures that would undermine Palestinian territorial unity.
The phone call addressed developments in Yemen, with Abdelatty reaffirming Egypt's strong support for Yemen's unity, territorial integrity, and preservation of its national institutions. He expressed concern over the risks of escalation and their repercussions on the humanitarian situation and regional security. He also commended regional efforts aimed at supporting de-escalation and creating an environment conducive to the resumption of a comprehensive political process.
