Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a telephone conversation with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas and Cypriot Foreign Minister Konstantinos Kombos as part of ongoing consultations on the partnership between Egypt and the European Union. The officials discussed ways to enhance the strategic and comprehensive partnership following the first Egypt-EU summit in Brussels in October 2025. They highlighted significant progress in political, economic, and security cooperation, emphasizing mutual interest in coordination and consultation to advance shared priorities.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the call also addressed regional crises, including developments in Iran, stressing the need to reduce tensions and avoid escalation and affirming that there are no military solutions to regional conflicts. The parties underscored the importance of creating conditions conducive to diplomatic solutions and political settlements to support regional stability and security.
On the Palestinian issue, including deteriorating conditions in the West Bank amid annexation policies, settlement expansion, and settler violence, as well as the situation in Gaza, Abdelatty and the EU officials exchanged views on the next steps following the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump's peace plan. They agreed on the need to implement the second phase, including the establishment of the Palestinian technocrats' committee, the deployment of an international stabilization force to monitor the Gaza ceasefire, Israel's withdrawal from Gaza, and early recovery and reconstruction efforts.
The European officials praised Egypt's leading role as a pillar of stability in the region, its efforts in maintaining the Gaza ceasefire, and support for diplomatic and consensual solutions.
