Cairo: Egypt reaffirms its firm support for Lebanon and its commitment to respecting the country's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said during a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam.

According to State Information Service Egypt, foreign ministry spokesman Tamim Khallaf stated that Abdelatty stressed Egypt's backing for Lebanese national institutions to fully assume their responsibilities in maintaining security and stability, in a way that safeguards the interests of the Lebanese people.

The top Egyptian diplomat voiced appreciation for efforts by the Lebanese state to extend its authority over all its territory and welcomed the announcement that the first phase of a plan to place all weapons under state control south of the Litani River had been completed. He said the step reflects a clear commitment to strengthening state sovereignty and reinforcing the role of Lebanon's legitimate institutions.

Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's outright rejection of any infringement on Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, or territorial integrity. He underscored the need for the full and non-selective implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, including the immediate and complete withdrawal of Israeli forces and an end to all violations of Lebanese sovereignty. He also expressed Egypt's firm opposition to any attempts at military escalation that could undermine Lebanon's unity, sovereignty, or territorial integrity.
