Egypt and EBRD Explore Strategies to Boost Health Investments and Facility Development

Cairo: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar has engaged in discussions with a delegation from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to explore avenues for collaborative efforts in enhancing health facilities and expanding investments in the health sector.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions align with the state's plan to upgrade medical infrastructure and improve the quality of services provided to citizens. The meeting took place during the third edition of the Global Congress on Population, Health, and Human Development (PHDC 25), which was held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, focusing on empowering individuals and enhancing progress.

Abdel Ghaffar reiterated the state's commitment to fostering partnerships with major international institutions. He highlighted the Ministry of Health's integrated plan, which includes the establishment of new hospitals in urban expansion areas and the development of existing facilities by upgrading infrastructure and equipping them with advanced technology. This initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency and elevate the quality of healthcare services.

The Minister also discussed with the EBRD delegation the investment opportunities available in national health sector projects. He emphasized that joint cooperation would increase health investments and incorporate global operation and management models within public hospitals, leading to increased capacity and sustainability in providing advanced medical services nationwide.

Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, noted that the meeting addressed maximizing the use of funding mechanisms and technical expertise from the European Bank to support the state's expansion plans. These include establishing integrated medical complexes and developing emergency and intensive care departments to meet the health system's needs.

The spokesperson further mentioned that both parties considered implementing projects to upgrade infrastructure and services within health facilities, increase the number of beds and intensive care units, and foster partnerships with the private sector to attract more investments. He emphasized that such cooperation is crucial in supporting the state's efforts to advance the health system and deliver safe, high-quality services to citizens.
