Algiers: The foreign ministers of Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia have emphasized the crucial role of Libyan leadership in determining the political settlement process to address the ongoing crisis in Libya, with support from the United Nations. This approach reflects the collective political will of the Libyan people to shape their own future, while maintaining the unity and independence of Libya's land, people, and institutions.
According to State Information Service Egypt, this assertion was part of the final communiqu© from the meeting of the foreign ministers of Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia on Libya, held in Algiers as part of the tripartite mechanism of neighboring states. This meeting underscored the continued commitment of the three countries to enhance consultation and coordination regarding the Libyan crisis.
The meeting took place in the context of concerted efforts by the three nations to coordinate and strengthen joint initiatives aimed at reviving the political process in Libya. The ministers unanimously supported the UN's proposed roadmap for a peaceful political settlement and urged all Libyan factions to seriously engage in the political process, emphasizing the need for dialogue and prioritization of national interests to facilitate simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.
These elections are seen as vital to overcoming the nation's divisions and ending the protracted crisis. The ministers also highlighted the importance of comprehensive national reconciliation involving all segments of Libyan society.
Furthermore, the ministers reiterated their stance against any foreign interference in Libya's internal affairs and called for the withdrawal of all mercenaries and foreign forces.
