Cairo: President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti welcomed an Egyptian delegation led by Kamel El-Wazir, Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport. The meeting, attended by Abdel Rahman Raafat, Egypt's Ambassador to Djibouti, and representatives from Egyptian public and private sector companies, focused on infrastructure, transport projects, and industrial zones.
According to State Information Service Egypt, President Guelleh emphasized the historical relationship between Djibouti and Egypt, highlighting the importance of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's visit to Djibouti on April 23, 2025. This visit underscored the commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation, increase trade exchanges, and establish the Egyptian-Djiboutian Business Council. President Guelleh praised the ongoing joint projects in Djibouti as a testament to this collaboration and welcomed Egyptian companies to engage in various sectors including infrastructure, industrial, logistical, agricultural, and tourism.
Kamel El-Wazir expressed appreciation for the opportunity to meet with President Guelleh, relaying greetings from President El-Sisi. He reiterated Egypt's commitment to supporting Djibouti's development through the engagement of leading Egyptian companies. The delegation included seven major companies with expertise in infrastructure and industrial zones, poised to contribute to projects in diverse fields such as energy, health, and agriculture.
The visit resulted in significant developments, such as the inauguration of Banque Misr Djibouti and a solar power station in Arta region, alongside agreements in maritime transport and green energy. El-Wazir noted ongoing discussions with Djiboutian ministers aimed at boosting trade and cooperation in transport, industry, and tourism. Plans are underway to establish integrated commercial and agricultural projects between the two nations.
The Egyptian companies expressed gratitude to President Guelleh for the meeting, affirming their readiness to implement agreed-upon projects swiftly and effectively. They emphasized their intention to bring successful experiences from Egypt to Djibouti, reflecting the strong political and popular support for this enhanced bilateral cooperation.
