Sudanese Minister Commends Egypt as Safe Haven for Sudanese Amid Ongoing Crisis

Cairo: Sudanese Minister of Human Resources and Social Welfare Moatasim Ahmed Saleh emphasized Egypt's role as a safe haven for Sudanese people, highlighting the strong official and popular support of Egypt towards Sudanese citizens following the outbreak of war.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the minister acknowledged Egypt's commitment to providing dignified treatment and employment opportunities to Sudanese nationals without imposing complicated restrictions. This, he noted, underscores the historical ties and shared destiny between the two peoples of the Nile Valley.

In his statements on the sidelines of the 3rd edition of the International Labour Market Conference (GLMC), the Sudanese minister revealed that Egypt hosts over five million Sudanese nationals. He described this as a testament to the profound brotherhood between the two nations, asserting that Egypt and Sudan remain united in both war and peace.

The ongoing conflict has severely impacted Sudan's labor market, resulting in the displacement and refuge of millions of citizens within and outside Sudan. Neighboring countries, especially Egypt, along with Chad, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Libya, have been primary destinations for those affected. The minister highlighted that more than 16 million Sudanese have lost their jobs across the civil service, public, and private sectors.

To address these challenges, the Sudanese government is focusing on reintegrating affected individuals into the labor market. Efforts include promoting small-scale projects and entrepreneurship as cost-effective solutions with fast returns, alongside implementing vocational training programs to equip citizens with new skills for alternative fields.

The minister praised the GLMC's 3rd edition, noting the participation of over 10,000 attendees and 40 ministers. The conference addressed significant topics such as the use of artificial intelligence in creating job opportunities and establishing international partnerships to support labor markets, particularly in crisis-affected regions.
