Suez: The State Information Service (SIS), led by Ambassador Alaa Youssef, organized a seminar at the Media Center in the Suez Governorate to promote a culture of volunteering and boost environmental awareness among young people. The event was conducted under the guidance of Major General Dr. Tamer Shams El-Din, Head of the Internal Media Sector.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the seminar aimed to inspire youth to engage in volunteer work and enhance their environmental consciousness. The event was moderated by Ms. Magda Ashmawy and featured prominent speakers, including Sheikh Mohamed Fathy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Religious Endowments in Suez, and Dr. Tamer Hassan Mustafa, a training researcher at the Suez Environmental Affairs Authority.
Ms. Ashmawy highlighted the importance of environmental awareness as a critical element in Egypt's environmental initiatives, emphasizing that community leaders bear the responsibility to uphold this cause. Sheikh Mohammed Fathi pointed out the Islamic principles that advocate for volunteerism as a cornerstone for creating a supportive and unified society, referencing the Qur'an and Sunnah's teachings on social solidarity and consciousness-raising.
Dr. Tamer Hassan discussed various themes, such as implementing practical environmental initiatives like plastic collection campaigns, tree planting, and rooftop gardening. He also addressed the use of social media and technology to enhance environmental awareness and behavior change. Additionally, Dr. Hassan explored the development of sustainable community leadership by establishing environmental ambassador clubs and executing training and empowerment programs.
The seminar concluded with youth participants recommending the activation of media outlets to increase awareness about volunteer efforts. They also emphasized the need for community involvement in development and encouraged the promotion of volunteerism within educational institutions.
