Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has stressed the growing importance of the economic dimension of the ministry's work at both bilateral and multilateral levels. Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Monday, August 24, 2026, with leaders and members of the Foreign Ministry's economic affairs sector, as part of efforts to maintain direct communication with the ministry's various departments and hear their assessments and proposals on advancing Egypt's foreign policy priorities.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty emphasized the significant role the sector plays in supporting the national economy by promoting investment in Egypt, opening new markets for Egyptian exports, and advancing efforts to localize industry. These initiatives align with the State's economic and development priorities.
He further stressed the need for Egypt to enhance its international engagement through regional and international economic and financial institutions and forums, aiming to push the country's priorities within the international financing system.
The Foreign Minister highlighted his role as Egypt's governor at several international institutions, including the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the New Development Bank of the BRICS grouping. Such positions, he noted, would aid Egypt in mobilizing concessional financing, attracting foreign investments, and supporting national development priorities.
Abdelatty also addressed the growing challenges facing the region and their impact on development prospects, particularly the decline in concessional financing flows to developing countries. He emphasized the importance of Egypt intensifying efforts with developing countries to advocate for a fairer approach to the global debt crisis. This includes strengthening debt restructuring mechanisms and expanding debt-relief instruments amid escalating regional crises and mounting pressures on energy and food security and supply chains.
He underscored the significance of closer coordination with relevant ministries and national bodies to determine priorities for economic, trade, and development engagement with countries worldwide. He advocated for removing obstacles to economic and investment cooperation and leveraging Egyptian embassies and diplomatic missions abroad to promote the Egyptian economy. This includes highlighting promising investment opportunities and strengthening ties between Egyptian businesses and their international counterparts.
The meeting also addressed several priority economic issues, including renewable energy, strengthening Egypt's position as a regional hub for energy, trade, and logistics, and supporting food security. In this context, the Foreign Minister instructed Egyptian diplomatic missions to intensify efforts to advance these priorities and promote the country's capabilities and potential in these areas.
