Cairo: Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources Hani Sewilam engaged in discussions with Mongolian Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Tsagaankhuugiin Iderbat to explore avenues for strengthening cooperation and sharing expertise in the field of water resources management. The dialogue comes amid increasing challenges in the water and agriculture sectors and underscores the critical role of effective water management in bolstering food security and promoting sustainable development.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place on the sidelines of Sewilam's attendance at the 17th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17) in Mongolia. During the meeting, Sewilam presented the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation's vision for advancing Egypt's water management system to its second generation (2.0). This initiative aims to enhance water management by integrating engineering and technological solutions, improving water-use efficiency, and expanding the use of modern technologies in managing water resources.

Both ministers emphasized the importance of maximizing the utility of each unit of water and enhancing water-use efficiency, with a particular focus on agricultural applications. The collaboration aims to address the growing challenges both nations face in managing their water resources efficiently, ensuring the sustainability of their agricultural sectors, and supporting overall economic development.
