PM Highlights Role of National Media Authority in Cultural Awareness

Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly praised the National Media Authority's (NMA) efforts in enhancing cultural and social awareness, disseminating knowledge, and contributing to the development of the Egyptian national identity by fostering a sense of belonging and reinforcing essential societal values. "We are ready to provide full support to help the NMA regain its leadership role and standing," Madbouly stated during a meeting aimed at improving the performance of economic authorities. This meeting was attended by Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al-Mashat and NMA Head Ahmed El Moslemani.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting also included the presence of Hussein Eissa, Head of the Technical Secretariat of the Committee for Reform and Restructuring of Economic Authorities, Ashraf Negm, Vice Chairman of the National Investment Bank, and Taha Mohamed Mahmoud, Head of the Economic Sector at the NMA. The prime minister emphasized the critical function of the Committee for Reform and Restructuring of Economic Authorities in addressing challenges faced by each authority and devising restructuring mechanisms to ensure sustainable performance.

Rania Al-Mashat, the planning minister, discussed the reform committee's role and the status of each authority, highlighting its responsibility for comprehensive structural reform of economic authorities. She underscored the aim to optimize the use of economic authorities, enhance their efficiency, and boost their contribution to the gross domestic product. Eissa reported that after reviewing 59 authorities in the initial phase, a decision was made to retain 39 economic authorities, liquidate or abolish four, merge seven with other entities, and convert nine from economic authorities into public bodies.

Moslemani provided an overview of recent measures, noting that the NMA had previously lacked a dedicated social media company, but has since contracted a firm to manage its digital presence. Preparations are underway to launch a dedicated Maspero digital platform, leveraging the broadcaster's extensive archive. Moslemani added that the NMA is continuing efforts to reform the Voice of Cairo company and its advertising agency, detailing plans to merge certain television channels and develop others. A comprehensive reform plan is expected to be presented by the end of January 2026.

The meeting also addressed progress in resolving financial entanglements between Maspero and the National Investment Bank, as part of efforts to eliminate obstacles hindering the reform process.
