Cairo: Prime Minister Dr Mostafa Madbouly, representing President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, attended the opening of the conference 'Investing Religious and Media Discourse and Its Impact on the Protection and Promotion of Women's Rights in the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation', held at the Al-Azhar Conference Centre on 1-2 February 2026. The event is organized under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in partnership with Al-Azhar, the National Council for Women, and the Women Development Organization (WDO).

According to State Information Service Egypt, upon arrival, the Prime Minister was welcomed by Grand Imam Dr Ahmed El-Tayeb of Al-Azhar and Ms Amal Ammar, Chair of the National Council for Women and Chair of the Ministerial Council of the Women Development Organization. The conference hosts numerous ministers, governors, media leaders, and senior officials from OIC member states, addressing women's affairs, justice, social development, and more.

The event gathers religious scholars, Al-Azhar religious leaders, members of the Council of Islamic Jurisprudence, and representatives from global Islamic institutions. The conference also includes representatives from Al-Azhar's Observatory for Combating Extremism, Egyptian Church officials, university leaders, educational and research institutions, civil society, and cultural organizations.

This conference is part of Egypt's leadership in the eighth session of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, held in Cairo in July 2021. The previous conference resolved to focus on religious and media discourse's role in protecting and promoting women's rights, calling for an international conference on women's rights in Islam.

The National Council for Women, Al-Azhar, and the Women Development Organisation aim to develop a sustainable approach to advancing women's rights across the Islamic world. The conference emphasizes utilizing religious and media discourse to support efforts in women's protection and empowerment. It seeks to enhance media's role in fostering societal awareness on women's issues, challenge stereotypes, and confront harmful rhetoric against women and girls across media platforms.
