Cairo: Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hani Sewilam, met with Uganda’s State Minister for Environment Beatrice Atim Anywar to explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in water management. The talks come amid longstanding ties between the two countries and Egypt’s broader efforts to improve partnerships with Nile Basin states.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting reviewed outcomes of the Egyptian-Ugandan joint steering committee, including an agreement on an executive plan to implement a memorandum of understanding on integrated water resources management signed in 2025, with projects valued at $6 million. These include constructing water reservoirs, drilling and rehabilitating groundwater wells powered by solar energy, and building technical capacity within Uganda’s water and environment ministry.
The two sides also discussed potential projects under Egypt’s $100 million financing mechanism for development initiatives in the southern Nile Basin countries.
