Egypt: Egypt's Foreign Ministry has introduced new sectors and departments as part of an ongoing restructuring aimed at strengthening its ability to address emerging political and technical challenges, improve diplomatic tools and advance Egypt's foreign-policy priorities and national interests. The restructuring is based on several principles, including efficiency, empowering young diplomats and women, and making use of the accumulated experience of senior officials.
According to State Information Service Egypt, as part of the changes, the ministry has established a Migration Sector to handle the various dimensions of migration in an integrated manner, including regular migration of Egyptian workers, seasonal migration, return and reintegration, and combating crimes linked to migration. The sector will also strengthen cooperation with relevant countries and international organizations to maximize opportunities arising from legal migration and labor mobility, while seeking greater burden-sharing with developed countries and international organizations in light of the pressures Egypt faces from hosting millions of refugees.
The restructuring also includes a new sector dedicated to international terrorism, corruption, and transnational crime, reflecting the interconnected nature of these challenges and their growing impact on security and stability. The new sector will coordinate Egypt's efforts at relevant regional and international forums and support bilateral and multilateral cooperation to combat these threats.
The Foreign Ministry has also established a new department for artificial intelligence and emerging technologies to monitor international developments in these fields, identify opportunities, and strengthen Egypt's participation in international discussions and frameworks on AI governance and new technologies. The department will also explore ways to use these technologies to improve Egypt's diplomatic work.
The ministry is also placing greater emphasis on training and capacity building for diplomatic and administrative staff and researchers through specialized programs designed to keep pace with developments in diplomatic, economic, and technological fields. The programs aim to sharpen professional and technical skills and prepare qualified personnel capable of handling the increasingly diverse and interconnected issues facing the ministry.
The ministry said it is giving particular attention to empowering young diplomats and women, with several newly established sectors and departments, as well as other ministry units, being led by mid-ranking diplomats. The move is intended to draw on diverse expertise within the ministry, bring new blood into leadership and decision-making positions, and make use of the accumulated experience of senior diplomatic officials. The ministry said appointments and the allocation of responsibilities are based on competence, performance, and the ability to assume responsibility, within an institutional framework that preserves professional experience while strengthening the ministry's ability to respond to changing diplomatic challenges.
