EGIPA Chairman Meets Japanese Ambassador to Boost Cooperation


Cairo: Chairman of the Egyptian Intellectual Property Authority (EGIPA) Hisham Azmy met with Japan’s Ambassador to Egypt, Fumio Iwai, in Cairo to discuss strengthening cooperation in intellectual property (IP) protection.



According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting highlighted the authority’s growing role at both national and international levels and its institutional model integrating various IP sectors under a unified framework. Azmy outlined Egypt’s national intellectual property strategy and ongoing efforts to implement it in coordination with state institutions.



Discussions also covered cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and institutional development initiatives, particularly in digital transformation supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Egypt’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.



The Japanese ambassador underscored the importance of strong IP protection in attracting investment, particularly in creative industries such as animation, and expressed interest in the Egyptian market. Both sides affirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation, with Egyptian officials highlighting legal frameworks and enforcement mechanisms designed to protect intellectual property and support economic development.
