Health Ministers of Egypt and Tunisia Discuss Strengthening Cooperation in Health Sector

Tripoli: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met with Tunisia's Minister of Health Dr. Mustafa Al-Farjani to explore avenues for enhancing joint cooperation in the health sector. The discussion focused on exchanging experiences in universal health coverage and health initiatives.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting occurred during the 63rd regular session of the Council of Arab Health Ministers in Tripoli, attended by health ministers and representatives from Arab countries. Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, highlighted the key topics discussed. These included collaboration in health tourism, sharing expertise among physicians in various specialties, unified procurement, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and strengthening cooperation within the "One Health" strategy to combat epidemics and climate change.

Dr. Abdel Ghaffar noted that the meeting also addressed cooperation in hospital management, exploring the latest systems, and supporting partnerships for handling emergencies and infectious diseases. They discussed coordinating international efforts to manage disease outbreaks, cooperation in laboratory medicine, and developing training programs for laboratory staff. Training personnel in family medicine and reproductive health was also a focus.

Additionally, the ministers reviewed the delivery of medical and humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people and joint efforts to support the health sector in Gaza. The spokesperson mentioned that activating the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Egypt and Tunisia in September 2025 was another key topic. This agreement covers areas such as primary care, combating non-communicable diseases, hospital information systems management, human resource development, and research in medical biotechnology.
