Health Minister Receives Indian Counterpart to Boost Pharmaceutical Collaboration

Cairo: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar received his Indian counterpart, Minister of Health, Chemicals, and Fertilizers Jagat Prakash Nada, to enhance cooperation in healthcare fields, primarily focusing on the exchange of expertise in the pharmaceutical industry and exploring joint investment opportunities between the two countries.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting took place on the sidelines of preparations for the 3rd World Conference on Population, Health, and Development 2025, which will be held from 12 to 15 November 2025. Official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, stated that the Egyptian minister emphasized the political leadership's focus on healthcare, especially the pharmaceutical industry, with an eye towards expanding the health investment environment in cooperation with leading countries. This effort aims to enhance the efficiency and quality of the Egyptian market and enable it to compete on a global scale.

Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar highlighted Egypt's achievements in the pharmaceutical sector, noting the country's skilled workforce and expertise. Discussions were centered around strengthening partnerships in pharmaceutical manufacturing and healthcare, and exploring joint projects between Egyptian and Indian pharmaceutical companies. Particular emphasis was placed on oncology drug production, aiming for technology transfer and the localization of high-tech drug manufacturing.

The meeting also focused on encouraging health investment through strategic agreements in vaccine production, oncology drugs, and biopharmaceuticals. This includes technology transfer and capacity building through specialized training programs and infrastructure development. Mechanisms to facilitate pharmaceutical investment and streamline registration, import, and export procedures were also addressed. Both ministers agreed on the importance of coordination between the public and private sectors, civil society, and pharmaceutical and vaccine companies in both countries.
