FM, UN Chief Engage in Phone Talks on Regional Crises

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held phone talks on Thursday with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to discuss regional developments and current crises. During the talks, Abdelatty conveyed greetings from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and reaffirmed Egypt's support for the United Nations' role in preserving international peace and security.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty emphasized the need for Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, unhindered humanitarian access, early recovery, and reconstruction. He stressed the rejection of any actions that could undermine the unity of Palestinian territories or divide Gaza from the West Bank.

The discussions also covered the situation in Sudan, where Abdelatty called for a humanitarian truce that would lead to a comprehensive ceasefire. He highlighted the importance of respecting Sudan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, while ensuring the protection of civilians and safe access for humanitarian aid. Abdelatty condemned the violations against civilians in El Fasher and North Kordofan.

In relation to Yemen, Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's support for the unity of the country and its state institutions. He urged for de-escalation and progress towards a Yemeni-led political settlement. Furthermore, Abdelatty expressed rejection of Israel's unilateral recognition of the "Somaliland" region, reaffirming Egypt's support for Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Additionally, Guterres praised Egypt's role in maintaining regional stability and its commitment to the UN Charter.
