Cairo: The Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) has dispatched its 112th aid convoy to Gaza, carrying over 118,000 food parcels, winter clothing, and thousands of tons of vital humanitarian supplies. This move is part of Egypt's ongoing relief efforts for the besieged territory.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the convoy included 755 tons of flour, over 970 tons of medicines and medical supplies, more than 160 tons of personal care items, and approximately 1,580 tons of petroleum products. Additionally, the convoy carried 30,970 winter clothing items and 920 blankets in response to the worsening weather conditions in Gaza.
Since October 2023, when the conflict in Gaza intensified, Egypt has consistently delivered aid to the region. The ERC reports that Egypt has sent over 780,000 tons of aid through the Rafah and Karm Abu Salem crossings over more than 760 consecutive days. The operation has involved coordination with 59 countries and has been supported by 943 relief flights and 617 maritime aid shipments.
The distribution of aid has been facilitated through a nationwide logistics network managed by the ERC, engaging more than 65,000 volunteers. In addition to the aid deliveries, Egypt has facilitated the entry of 214 ambulances into Gaza, supplied around 91,000 tonnes of fuel, and coordinated the deployment of four field hospitals. The ERC has provided crucial medical, relief, and family-support services across the region.
This latest aid delivery comes as the United Nations (UN) warns of a deepening human rights crisis in the occupied Palestinian territories.
