FM Reaffirms Egypt’s Support for UN Sustainable Development Efforts in Middle East

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's commitment to supporting efforts of the United Nations (UN) to promote sustainable development in the Middle East, especially in light of the current political, security, economic, and social challenges.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Foreign Minister highlighted Egypt's role as a key partner working to enhance cooperation and the exchange of expertise among developing countries. During the minister's meeting Thursday with UN Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the Regional Bureau for Arab States at the UN Development Program (UNDP) Abdallah al-Dardari and UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in the Palestinian territories Ramiz Alakbarov, discussions focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and the UN regarding preparations for Egypt's hosting of the International Conference on Early Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development in Gaza.

Abdelatty praised the constructive UN role in promoting peace and sustainable development at both the regional and international levels. He commended the UN's efforts to support development in partnership with the Egyptian government, contributing to the implementation of Egypt's national development agenda in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

He also reviewed ongoing preparations for Egypt's hosting of the international conference on Gaza's reconstruction, voicing aspiration for active participation from UN agencies and programs to benefit from their extensive experience, especially during the early recovery phase leading up to reconstruction.

The minister further stressed the importance of providing necessary support to ensure that the conference results in clear commitments that enable the immediate launch of recovery projects, thereby alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.
