FM: Egypt Fully Involved in Talks on 2nd Phase of Gaza Peace Plan

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty stated that Egypt is fully engaged in ongoing discussions with partners and friendly countries regarding the second phase of the Gaza peace plan. Abdelatty made these remarks in response to a query from the Middle East News Agency (MENA) on Egypt's efforts to solidify the Gaza ceasefire agreement and initiate the second phase of a US-backed peace initiative.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the Egyptian diplomat made these comments during a joint press conference with South Sudan's Foreign Minister Semaya Kumba in Cairo. Abdelatty emphasized the significance of the second phase of the Gaza peace plan, highlighting key components such as Israel's withdrawal from the Palestinian enclave.

Abdelatty outlined that this phase also addresses issues concerning the surrender of weapons, the deployment of an international force, and the establishment of a Peace Council. Additionally, it includes forming an interim Palestinian technocratic committee to govern Gaza, alongside training Palestinian police forces responsible for law enforcement and ensuring security and stability in the region.

He mentioned ongoing communications, referencing a recent meeting in Miami involving mediators from Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the United States. Abdelatty noted the daily occurrences of Israeli attacks, underscoring the necessity for an international force to identify and halt violations.

Expressing hope for action in the near future, Abdelatty aims to see the practical implementation of the second phase of US President Donald Trump's peace plan. He also expressed concern over developments in the West Bank, citing illegal measures by the Israeli government that violate international law, as well as acts of intimidation by Israeli settlers against civilians.
