Egypt: Egypt is following up with deep concern the escalating tensions and border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, which saw military confrontations on Thursday, resulting in a number of casualties and injuries.
According to State Information Service Egypt, in a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation.
Egypt stressed the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to calm the situation and defuse the crisis, warning against the risk of the region sliding into heightened instability, according to the statement.
It also stressed the need to focus on finding political and diplomatic solutions to resolve disputes in a manner that safeguards regional security and stability.
As part of ongoing consultations to follow up on the rapidly evolving developments and support de-escalation efforts, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Friday with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.
During the call, Dar provided a detailed briefing on the latest developments and the situation on the ground.
Abdelatty, for his part, reiterated Egypt's deep concern and called for calm and restraint to help ease tensions and prevent further deterioration in the region.
