FM Engages with Iranian FM and IAEA Chief on Nuclear Negotiations

Cairo: In line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah ElSisi to work towards de-escalating tensions in the region, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptians Expatriates Dr. Badr Abdelatty, held two telephone conversations on Thursday with the Iranian Foreign Minister Mr. Abbas Araqchi, and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mr. Rafael Grossi. The discussions focused on the developments and substance of the latest round of negotiations between the United States and Iran in Geneva.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, stated that Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty listened to both sides' accounts of the negotiations held in Geneva. Minister Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's firm position in support of diplomatic efforts to resolve outstanding issues, emphasizing the importance of continuing the negotiation process and preventing escalation in the region.

Minister Abdelatty stressed the importance of resolving outstanding differences and all concerns in the negotiations between the United States and Iran. He underscored the necessity of reaching compromise solutions, avoiding military solutions and their grave consequences.

The Iranian Foreign Minister and the IAEA Director General expressed their appreciation for Egypt's efforts to reduce escalation and tension in the region. They emphasized their eagerness to continue coordination and consultation in a way that contributes to reaching a comprehensive settlement of the Iranian nuclear issue and achieving security and stability in the region.
