Egypt Secures Second Spot for Highest Projected GDP in Africa by 2025

Cairo: A recent report by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has revealed the projected economic standings of African countries by 2025, spotlighting Egypt as the second-highest in terms of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) across the continent.According to State Information Service Egypt, the IMF's statistics position Egypt just behind South Africa, which is expected to remain Africa's largest economy with a GDP projection of $410.34 billion by 2025. Egypt's GDP is projected to reach $347.34 billion, placing it firmly in second place.The GDP, representing the total economic output including goods and services produced within a country over a year, serves as a crucial indicator of economic activity, power, global influence, and industrial capacity. Understanding GDP rankings is vital for governments, investors, and businesses monitoring global economic dynamics.Africa's economic landscape is characterized by its diversity, with some countries driving significant portions of the continent's GDP, while othe rs face challenges such as political instability or overreliance on specific sectors. Despite Egypt's temporary surpassing of South Africa in 2023-where it accounted for 13.63% of Africa's GDP-it has now settled into the second position.Notably, Nigeria, once Africa's largest economy, has slipped to fourth place with a projected GDP of $188.27 billion despite its large population. This shift underscores the dynamic and evolving nature of Africa's economic future.
