Cairo: Egypt's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced a significant upgrade to its consular services in 2025, which includes the expansion of authentication offices across the nation and the issuance of millions of authentications and passports. A key feature of this upgrade is the development of a pilot electronic authentication platform aimed at modernizing and accelerating service delivery for Egyptians both domestically and internationally.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the ministry's efforts are part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance consular services. This initiative follows directives from the political leadership to improve service quality, streamline procedures, and ensure timely responses to humanitarian and emergency situations affecting Egyptians worldwide.
The year 2025 marked a notable expansion in authentication services throughout Egypt. The ministry highlighted the opening of a second authentication office in the Kafr El-Sheikh governorate, with further plans to establish additional offices in various governorates and strategic locations soon. The activation of authentication services via Egypt Post in July 2025 led to the authentication of approximately 13,000 documents, and mobile postal units were introduced to receive applications beyond regular working hours. These expansions have significantly reduced office congestion and improved operational efficiency.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has placed strong emphasis on enhancing communication with Egyptians living abroad by setting up hotlines at all diplomatic and consular missions, along with a central hotline to address inquiries and emergencies. The ministry has also intensified consular awareness campaigns focusing on the dangers of irregular migration and security conditions in conflict zones. These efforts have resulted in the successful resolution of several humanitarian cases, including the release of 131 Egyptians detained in western Libya and the three Egyptian nationals kidnapped in Mali. Assistance was also provided to citizens stranded in different countries and urgent medical cases were addressed.
In terms of passport services, the Mechanised Passport Centre issued approximately 125,000 Egyptian passports and travel documents between January and November 2025. The ministry also rolled out nearly 4,000 mechanised birth certificates since launching the service, with plans to introduce more mechanised civil status services. The ministry reiterated its dedication to advancing the consular work system, enhancing service efficiency, and promoting digital transformation to safeguard citizens' interests and provide comprehensive care both within Egypt and abroad.
