Cairo: Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk witnessed the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Agricultural Research Center (ARC) and China Agricultural University (CAU) on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. This agreement is part of the ongoing efforts by Egypt and China to strengthen scientific and technological collaboration in the agricultural sector.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the protocol aims to enhance scientific, technical, and institutional cooperation between ARC and CAU. It focuses on developing joint research initiatives, exchanging expertise, and implementing capacity-building and academic exchange programs. These efforts are designed to address challenges related to agriculture, food security, climate change, and sustainable development.

Farouk emphasized the critical role of scientific research, innovation, and technology transfer in advancing the agricultural sector and ensuring food security. He underscored the importance of expanding cooperation with leading international universities and research institutions to leverage modern expertise and technologies, adapting them to suit the specific needs of Egyptian agriculture.

Farouk highlighted the significance of the cooperation covering areas such as the localization of pesticide manufacturing, technology transfer in aquaculture, and vegetable seed production. Additionally, the collaboration will focus on research related to the social economy, food security, and nutrition, as well as the development of improved crops with higher yields and greater resistance to drought and salinity.

During the meeting, both sides reviewed their institutions' scientific and research capabilities. The ARC showcased its specialized institutes, laboratories, experimental stations, and scientific personnel, while the Chinese delegation presented its advanced expertise in agricultural education, technological innovation, and agricultural modernization.

ARC chairman noted that the signing of the protocol marks a significant step in the center's international research cooperation efforts and enhances opportunities for knowledge and technology exchange. He expressed the center's commitment to translating areas of cooperation into research and applied programs and projects that generate tangible benefits for the agricultural sector.
