Egypt, Bahrain Emphasize Importance of Maritime Security and Navigation

Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Bahrain's Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani stressed the importance of ensuring maritime security and freedom of navigation through international waterways, while adhering to international law and the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), in a manner that preserves regional security and stability and safeguards the interests of all countries.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the remarks came during a telephone conversation between the two ministers as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between the two brotherly nations on bilateral relations and regional developments. Zayani reviewed the outcomes of the recent ministerial meeting between the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the US, hosted by Bahrain. He noted that the meeting contributed to strengthening dialogue and joint coordination to address the region's security concerns and support unified Arab positions in the face of various challenges.

The two ministers underscored the importance of further enhancing coordination and consultations between Egypt and the GCC states in a way that strengthens solidarity with the Gulf countries and advances shared interests. They reaffirmed that Egypt's security and the security of the Gulf states are closely interconnected and that Gulf security is an integral part of Egypt's national security.

The ministers also exchanged views on the latest regional developments, particularly those following the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran. They stressed the importance of building on the momentum generated by the negotiation process and continuing it in a way that helps reduce tensions and promote security and stability across the region, while taking into account the security concerns of regional countries.
