Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly expressed appreciation for the partnership between the government and AngloGold Ashanti, the operator of the Sukari gold mine, Egypt's largest gold-producing site. During his meeting on Sunday, November 30, 2025, with senior officials from AngloGold Ashanti, the premier noted that the company has ambitious plans to increase production, stressing the need for close coordination with all relevant government bodies to accelerate progress toward these targets.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting, held at the Government District in the New Capital, aimed to review ongoing developments at the Sukari mine. Madbouly affirmed his full support for any measures that help speed up operations at the mine in a way that serves the shared interests of both sides.
The meeting was attended by Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi, Managing Director and Deputy Chairperson of Sukari Gold Mines Company Hoda Mansour, Senior Vice President for Africa at AngloGold Ashanti Terry Strong, and Senior Vice President for Sustainability and Government Relations at AngloGold Ashanti Africa Baso Sangqu.
During the meeting, the petroleum minister reviewed steps taken by the ministry to support the mining sector, emphasizing the state's strong focus on developing this industry. He praised the strategic partnership with AngloGold Ashanti in managing the Sukari mine, which ranks among the world's top ten gold mines and operates with the latest technological systems. Badawi also highlighted cooperation with the company to enhance the skills of the mine's workforce to maximize the value derived from this key national asset.
For her part, Mansour outlined several areas of cooperation planned with the government in the coming period, which are expected to contribute to increasing Sukari's productivity. Terry Strong stated that AngloGold Ashanti highly values its partnership with the Egyptian government. "Our investments in Egypt have been exceptionally positive, driven by the strong support and commitment we receive from Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi, which contribute to the success of our joint venture."
He emphasized the company's commitment to ensuring that Egypt maximizes the benefits of gold sector development through job creation in the local market and continuous skills development for workers in the industry.
