Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty affirmed the great importance of resuming the path of dialogue between the United States and Iran in order to reach understandings that would achieve de-escalation. Abdelatty made the remarks during a phone call held on Sunday, May 17, 2026, with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the phone call was part of ongoing consultation and coordination between the two countries regarding the development of bilateral relations, regional developments, and efforts aimed at containing tensions in the region. During the call, the Egyptian foreign minister praised the longstanding relations between Egypt and Pakistan, expressing keenness to proceed with cooperation between the two friendly countries and to advance bilateral relations to broader horizons across various fields.
He also expressed aspiration to open new avenues for developing the bilateral partnership in a way that achieves mutual benefit for both countries. The call also addressed efforts being made to reduce escalation in the region, as Abdelatty stressed the necessity of resorting to dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions and spare the region the consequences of an expanding conflict.
The two sides discussed a number of regional issues of mutual concern, including the issue of Palestine and the developments within Afghanistan. At the conclusion of the call, the two ministers stressed the importance of maintaining joint coordination and consultation in a way that ensures reducing tensions, resuming negotiations, and promoting political solutions away from any military escalation.
