Cairo: Egypt's Minister of Civil Aviation, Sameh el Hefny, has held a meeting with Mohamed Abd al Salam Shalibek, the head of Libya's Civil Aviation Authority, to discuss the advancement of bilateral cooperation in the realm of civil aviation. This meeting culminated in the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at fortifying ties between the two nations.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Hefny emphasized Egypt's dedication to providing technical support and fostering institutional coordination with Libya. The goal is to strengthen bilateral relations and promote integration in areas such as aviation safety and airspace management. The newly signed agreement seeks to enhance coordination in managing and operating the Egyptian and Libyan airspaces, ensuring high levels of safety and operational efficiency in accordance with international standards.
The memorandum of understanding includes provisions for organizing training programs, building the capacities of technical and administrative personnel, and offering technical assistance in various civil aviation fields. Additionally, the agreement aims to support the restructuring and modernization of Libyan airspace, implement advanced air navigation technologies, and coordinate air traffic flows to optimize the use of airspaces in both countries.
Hefny noted that the agreement represents a significant step toward deeper regional integration in airspace management. It is expected to strengthen air connectivity, reduce flight times and operating costs, and generate positive economic returns. Moreover, it will enhance the regional and international competitiveness of both Egyptian and Libyan airspaces.
