Nairobi: President of the Egyptian Volleyball Federation Yasser Kamar affirmed that Egypt's women's national volleyball team winning the African Volleyball Championship represents a historic achievement, after defeating Kenya in the finals of the tournament held in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, and claiming the title after a 23-year absence.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Kamar said in exclusive statements to Nile Radio that the national team players delivered a historic performance by all standards after defeating the Kenyan team on its home court and in front of its fans, in a match attended by around 15,000 spectators.

He added that the 3-0 victory over Kenya, without losing a single set throughout the tournament, was a major achievement worthy of praise, stressing that the team delivered an exceptional performance throughout its campaign.

The President of the Egyptian Volleyball Federation thanked Youth and Sports Minister Gohar Nabil for his continued support and backing of the team, stressing that this support played an important role in achieving the accomplishment.

He noted that qualifying for the Olympic Games had been a major dream for Egypt's players, particularly as no women's national team in the history of Egyptian volleyball had previously qualified for the Olympics.

He stressed that achieving this milestone represents a great source of pride for the federation and the entire Egyptian volleyball family.

He explained that qualifying for the Olympics for the first time in the history of women's volleyball will pave the way for a new generation capable of continuing these achievements and winning more championships in the coming years.
