Cairo: Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly reviewed a report on the key results and achievements of the Egypt Healthcare Authority (EHA) during the first half of the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The report highlighted the expansion of Egypt's Universal Health Insurance System and efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the report, presented by EHA Chairman Ahmed el Sobky, covered the authority's medical and operational performance, developments in the Universal Health Insurance System, value-based healthcare, digital transformation, human resources development, financial sustainability, strategic partnerships, innovation, green transformation, and efforts to improve the patient experience.
The authority aims to provide healthcare services to citizens without discrimination, deliver high-quality care, and ensure the system's financial sustainability through performance and financial governance. It also seeks to strengthen integration with partner institutions and develop a safe, eco-friendly health system aligned with global efforts to address climate change.
The report noted that the number of beneficiaries enrolled in the system reached about 6.767 million, with the total number of medical services provided standing at 94.22 million. The authority delivered 3.83 million comprehensive health screening services, and medical service visits totaled 18.98 million.
The authority operates 335 healthcare facilities, including 289 family medicine centers and units and comprehensive clinics, as well as 46 hospitals. The number of surgical procedures performed reached 855,602, including 191,771 advanced surgeries, reflecting the authority's expansion in specialized and complex medical services.
The report stated that the authority continued to support international quality and accreditation standards, with facilities such as Sharm El-Sheikh International Hospital and Ismailia Medical Complex receiving Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation. Al-Shifa Medical Complex and its laboratories, along with the laboratory of Karnak Hospital, obtained ISO accreditation. The authority also pursued green healthcare accreditation, with the Stroke Unit at Ismailia Medical Complex obtaining STROKE UNIT accreditation from the World Stroke Organization (WSO).
The report highlighted the continued expansion of value-based healthcare, which shifts the focus from merely measuring the volume of services delivered toward assessing care outcomes, quality, and their impact on citizens' health. The approach also seeks to strengthen chronic disease management and improve long-term health outcomes.
Expanding healthcare coverage remains a key pillar of the authority's strategy, with continued efforts to receive and transfer healthcare facilities in governorates covered by the first phase of the Universal Health Insurance System. The report's indicators showed that 335 therapeutic facilities and seven non-therapeutic facilities had been received and transferred to the authority, with population coverage of healthcare services in included governorates reaching 82%.
The report emphasized the public health and initiatives department's focus on the long-term sustainability of the health system, prioritizing disease prevention over treatment and raising health awareness to reduce future pressures on the healthcare system. The authority provided comprehensive health screening services to about 3.87 million beneficiaries and implemented initiatives in cooperation with global companies, including a kidney disease initiative that targeted 177,800 beneficiaries and reached 171,444 by the end of the reporting period.
