Olympic Committee Chief Dedicates Mediterranean Games Achievement to President Sisi

Cairo: Egyptian Olympic Committee President Yasser Idris announced dedicating the historic achievement accomplished by the Egyptian delegation at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games to President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, in recognition of his continuous support for sports and athletes and his keenness to make sports a cornerstone of human development.According to State Information Service Egypt, Idris affirmed that dedicating this milestone to the President reflects the unanimous sentiment of Egyptian athletes and mission members, who attribute their success in Taranto directly to the continuous support of the leadership.In a statement on Saturday, September 5, 2026, Idris said the Egyptian athletes carried the national flag to Taranto and returned with a historic tally of 58 medals, proving Egypt's ability to develop champions who excel on global stages.Idris added that the achievement resulted from integrated state efforts, led by the Ministry of Youth and Sports under Minister of Youth and Sports Gohar Nabil, praising the ministry's cooperation with the Olympic Committee and sports federations.He noted that President Sisi's backing reflects the state's vision of human development and competitive excellence, which shone brightly through the Taranto results.Idris expressed pride in the Egyptian flag and thanked everyone who supported the athletes and believed in their journey.The Olympic Committee president concluded by thanking President Sisi and Sports Minister Gohar Nabil, stressing that Egyptian sports will build on this momentum to achieve further success on international podiums.
