Cairo: Minister of Justice Mahmoud El-Sherif discussed on Monday, July 6, 2026, with French Ambassador to Egypt Eric Chevallier future areas of cooperation and partnership, as well as plans aimed at enhancing and developing the judicial system.
According to State Information Service Egypt, during the meeting, Sherif reaffirmed Egypt's firm commitment to the rule of law, emphasizing the ministry's ongoing efforts to modernize the justice system under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. These efforts include supporting digital technologies and the technological transformation of litigation and institutional administration to ensure the swift delivery of justice and the safeguarding of rights and freedoms.
The discussions also explored opportunities for cooperation with Expertise France in the fields of rule of law, governance, and digital transformation. Additionally, there was a focus on strengthening joint coordination with the French High Council of Notaries to develop Egypt's notarization and real estate registration system.
The meeting reviewed the fruitful bilateral cooperation between the two countries. Both sides commended recent coordination efforts by the Ministry of Justice's International and Cultural Cooperation Sector. These efforts have led to the settlement of several mutual criminal judicial assistance requests and extradition cases in cooperation with the French Ministry of Justice and investigating judges at the Paris Court, highlighting the strength of joint judicial coordination in combating organized crime and terrorism.
French Ambassador Eric Chevallier affirmed his country's full commitment to supporting frameworks for technical cooperation and partnership programs across all legal and judicial fields of mutual interest, reflecting the depth of the strategic ties between Egypt and France.
