Egypt and Chad Discuss Cooperation in Livestock Sector

Cairo: Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk and Chad's Minister of Livestock Abderahim Awad Atteib convened on Sunday, November 16, 2025, to explore strategies for enhancing collaboration in the livestock sector. The discussions unfolded during the joint ministerial committee meetings in Cairo, co-chaired by the foreign ministers of both nations.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the meeting focused on leveraging Chad's substantial cattle population to expand cooperation in the livestock industry. The ministers deliberated on harnessing Egyptian expertise to improve livestock breeds and select appropriate fodders, aiming to enhance meat and dairy production.

Both officials emphasized the importance of engaging the private sector and agreed to organize a meeting with investors from both countries. This meeting would aim to explore opportunities in animal production, including fodder manufacturing. Furthermore, they discussed establishing an Egyptian laboratory in Chad for producing veterinary vaccines to fulfill national and regional requirements, thereby transferring crucial Egyptian expertise in this field.

The parties agreed on scheduling technical visits to implement previously signed memoranda of understanding and to broaden trade in agricultural and livestock products. Minister Farouk highlighted that this cooperation aligns with President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's dedication to strengthening relations with Chad and other African countries, providing the necessary technical and logistical support for sustainable development and food security.

Chad's Minister of Livestock expressed gratitude for Egypt's assistance, acknowledging Egypt as a strategic partner with critical expertise that could significantly advance Chad's livestock sector.
