Beijing: As part of the ongoing promotional missions carried out by the Egyptian Commercial Service (ECS) Office in Beijing, the office implemented an intensive program during November 2025 in the provinces of Shandong and Hunan. The program included a field tour in Shandong and participation in the Hunan-Arab States Economic and Trade Cooperation Meeting held in Changsha. These activities aimed to expand prospects for investment and trade cooperation between Egypt and the two Chinese provinces, while strengthening linkages between Chinese supply chains and Egypt's manufacturing and logistics capabilities.According to State Information Service Egypt, Minister Plenipotentiary for Commercial Affairs and Head of the ECS Office in Beijing Khaled Milad Razeq participated in the 'Dialogue with Shandong Institutions within the BRICS Framework' Forum, attended by Deputy Governor Song Junji and nearly 90 representatives of major companies. He delivered a presentation highlighting Egypt's position as a preferred dest ination for foreign direct investment and a gateway to markets in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, followed by an interactive discussion with participating companies.ECS also organized a roundtable meeting in the city of Dongying, featuring engagements with leading companies in the tire, oil, and petrochemical industries. It also hosted a joint meeting and workshop exploring opportunities for co-manufacturing, component localization, and cooperation in logistics and supply chains, with the participation of representatives from around 30 Chinese companies. The Shandong tour concluded with participation in the 'Matchmaking Conference for Shandong Enterprises Engaged in Foreign Investment and Foreign Trade' held in Jinan, the provincial capital, attended by representatives of around 60 Chinese companies. The ECS head delivered a presentation outlining the incentives available in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and Egypt's potential as a regional manufacturing and distribution hub.Within the same mission, t he ECS took part in the Hunan-Arab States Economic and Trade Cooperation Meeting in Changsha, which included a promotional session on investment opportunities and incentives in Egypt, as well as a dedicated session for networking and exploring partnership opportunities between Egypt and Hunan-based companies. The visit also featured a field tour of Qilu Pharmaceutical, one of China's leading pharmaceutical groups and a key partner for major Egyptian pharmaceutical companies. Discussions covered opportunities for technology transfer, local manufacturing, the establishment of an R and D center in Egypt, and additional avenues for cooperation. These tours and meetings resulted in discussions on multiple confirmed investment opportunities in the sectors of tires, pharmaceuticals, building materials, and glass. Both sides agreed to organize reciprocal exploratory visits to Egypt in the coming period. It is noteworthy that Shandong is China's third-largest provincial economy, and among its major investors in Egyp t are Haier, Hisense, and Sailun Group. Hunan, meanwhile, is an emerging industrial province in central China, home to leading companies in construction equipment, machinery, railways, and advanced materials. It also hosts the permanent China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo, which represents an important platform for expanding cooperation between Egypt and Arab countries, and between Hunan and other Chinese provinces.First Undersecretary of the Ministry and Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service Abdel Aziz El-Sherif stated that these efforts fall within a broader economic, trade, and investment partnership between Egypt and China. Bilateral trade reached $17.378 billion in 2024, underscoring the significant potential for strengthening and diversifying Egyptian exports to the Chinese market. Chinese direct investment in Egypt stands at approximately $1.2 billion, while total Chinese deals and investments implemented in the Egyptian market have exceeded $10 billion since the beginning of the modern phase of c ooperation between the two sides. This reflects what many describe as the 'Golden Decade' of Egyptian-Chinese relations, marked by Egypt's active participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and the expansion of industrial and logistical cooperation-particularly within the Suez Canal Economic Zone-reinforcing Egypt's role as a regional hub for manufacturing, services, and distribution across the Arab, African, and European regions.
