Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued an executive order instructing the State and Treasury departments to evaluate whether specific chapters of the Muslim Brotherhood should be designated as "Foreign Terrorist Organizations" (FTOs) and "Specially Designated Global Terrorists" (SDGTs), as stated by the White House.
According to TRTworld.com, the order directs these agencies, with input from the attorney general and the director of national intelligence, to assess chapters located in countries such as Lebanon, Egypt, and Jordan. The agencies must submit a report and decide within 45 days whether formal designation is warranted.
The White House clarified that this measure aims to limit the operational abilities of these chapters, restrict their financial resources, and mitigate any potential threats to US citizens and national security. Currently, the Muslim Brotherhood is not recognized as a "terrorist" organization by the US and is not included on the State Department's list of Foreign Terrorist Organizations.
