Dandara Solar Energy Project to Boost Egypt’s Renewable Energy Capacity

Cairo: Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation Rania Al Mashat announced the Dandara Solar Energy Project as a key initiative under the national platform of the 'NWFE' program. This project aims to enhance Egypt's renewable energy capacity by around 10 gigawatts by 2028. The project represents a collaborative effort involving the government, international financial institutions, and the Norwegian company Scatec, which is actively involved in renewable energy projects in Egypt alongside the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the announcement was made during a signing ceremony for letters of intent related to the project's financing. The ceremony was attended by notable figures including the Minister of Planning, Engineer Mohamed Shimi, the Minister of Public Business Sector, and the Norwegian Ambassador to Cairo, Erik Husem. The Dandara Solar Energy Project is set to provide electricity to the EgyptAlum Complex in Nag Hammadi, Qena Governorate, which operates under the Ministry of Public Business Sector's Holding Company for Metallurgical Industries.

The agreement for the project was signed between Dandara Solar Energy Company, a subsidiary of Norway's Scatec ASA, and several significant financial institutions. These include the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the African Development Bank (AfDB), and the European Investment Bank (EIB). This partnership underscores the collaborative international effort to bolster Egypt's renewable energy sector.
