Egyptian Diplomat and AfCFTA Chief Discuss Enhancing Trade Integration in Africa

According to State Information Service Egypt, the discussions focused on Egypt's commitment to supporting economic and trade integration across the continent. The ambassador emphasized Egypt's willingness to share its institutional expertise and human resources to bolster the capacities of fellow African nations.

The ambassador highlighted Egypt's institutional frameworks, such as the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, the National Training Academy, and the Egyptian Competition Authority. These institutions are equipped to offer training programs to AfCFTA member states. He noted that this initiative reflects Egypt's longstanding leadership role in Africa.

The meeting also reviewed the outcomes of a recent ministerial retreat in Cairo, attended by numerous African trade ministers. Mene praised Egypt's pivotal role in the event, which successfully opened new channels for private sector engagement in addressing trade barriers. The event was instrumental in concluding stalled negotiations on rules of origin in several key sectors.
