Suez Canal Hosts First Transit of CMA CGM SEINE, a Giant Container Ship

Suez canal: The CMA CGM SEINE, recognized as one of the largest container ships globally, has successfully made its inaugural passage through the Suez Canal. This significant transit was part of the North Convoy, with the ship journeying from Morocco to Malaysia, carrying an impressive cargo of 250,000 tons.

According to State Information Service Egypt, Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, remarked on the ship's passage as a testament to global confidence in the canal's operational readiness and strategic importance. The vessel, extending 399 meters in length and capable of accommodating up to 23,876 containers, is the latest addition to the CMA CGM fleet and was delivered in 2025.

The Suez Canal Authority made comprehensive preparations to ensure the safe passage of the CMA CGM SEINE. These included deploying senior pilots, offering tug assistance, and maintaining thorough monitoring throughout the transit. Admiral Rabie highlighted that this successful passage is expected to motivate other shipping lines to reconsider their schedules and continue their voyages through the canal, thereby enhancing global maritime trade.

Since December, CMA CGM has increased the number of its large container ship transits through the canal to 15 vessels, benefiting from the canal's adaptable pricing policies.
