Planning Minister Partners with Schneider Electric to Boost Climate Action and Food Security

Cairo: The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Schneider Electric Egypt to enhance private-sector collaboration in climate action and expedite the shift to a green economy. This agreement is in line with the NWAFI National Platform for Green Projects, particularly focusing on the water-food-energy nexus.

According to State Information Service Egypt, the MoU, effective from 2026 to 2029, will see Schneider Electric providing integrated solutions aimed at promoting climate-resilient sustainable agriculture, supporting small farmers, and improving food security. These efforts will complement existing initiatives such as the Integrated Climate-Resilient Water Resource Management in the Nile Valley - CROWN project.

Minister of Planning Rania Al-Mashat stated that the partnership demonstrates Egypt's dedication to sustainable rural development. The initiative aims to empower small farmers to adapt to climate change and create coordinated efforts to maximize developmental impact. She acknowledged the collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, international partners, and Schneider Electric for utilizing technology to deliver substantial benefits.

Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk highlighted the government's focus on empowering small farmers and advancing agricultural and rural development. Meanwhile, Schneider Electric CEO Sebastian Riez reaffirmed the company's commitment to sustainable development through technology, clean energy, and efficient resource management.

The collaboration will leverage advanced technologies such as solar energy and IoT solutions to improve operational efficiency and resource sustainability, thereby supporting Egypt's green transformation in the agriculture, water, and energy sectors.
