Suez: Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Vice Admiral Osama Rabie announced that a bulk carrier was successfully refloated after running aground in the Canal. The incident involved the vessel, XIN TAIN YUAN, which grounded due to a rudder malfunction while it was part of the northbound convoy, traveling from Denmark to Singapore.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Panama-flagged vessel, measuring 225 meters in length and 32.2 meters in width with a capacity of 41,000 tonnes, grounded at kilometer 87. The SCA immediately deployed four tugboats to conduct towing operations, refloat the vessel, and restore its position. The vessel was then escorted safely to the Great Bitter Lakes after the crew addressed the technical issue.
Vice Admiral Rabie stated that the operation was managed with precision, ensuring efficient coordination between the crisis management team and marine rescue units. He confirmed that navigation from the southern direction remained unaffected, and the normal movement of the northbound convoy will resume following the vessel’s inspection. The ship is set to continue its voyage once its technical condition is verified.
