New delhi: President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has sent a message to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on bilateral ties and strategic partnership, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty has said. The Egyptian top diplomat met with the Indian premier during his official visit to New Delhi, spokesperson for the ministry Tamim Khallaf stated. Abdelatty conveyed the greetings of President Sisi to the Indian prime minister and delivered a written message from the president to the Indian premier.
According to State Information Service Egypt, during the meeting, the foreign minister expressed pride in the development witnessed in bilateral relations between the two countries, marked by the exchange of high-level visits and the elevation of relations to the level of strategic partnership. Abdelatty mentioned that the eighth session of the Egyptian-Indian Joint Committee will be held during the first half of 2026, hosted by Cairo, to enhance joint cooperation in various fields. The foreign minister praised the launch of the first round of the strategic dialogue, emphasizing the commitment to holding the dialogue periodically in both countries, alternately.
He highlighted the importance of exchanging views on enhancing bilateral cooperation within the framework of the new mechanism, especially in economic, trade, and investment fields. Abdelatty expressed interest in expanding cooperation with India in these areas and aimed to increase the volume of trade exchange to $12 billion over the next five years. He reviewed the economic reforms implemented by the Egyptian government, including monetary policy and a flexible exchange rate system, which have improved economic performance, raised Egypt's credit rating, and enhanced the investment climate. He stressed the necessity of forming a business council between the two countries and establishing an Egyptian-Indian Chamber of Commerce.
The meeting also covered ways to cooperate in connectivity and international trade corridors, considering Egypt's advanced infrastructure connecting the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, and the pivotal role of the Suez Canal. The minister congratulated the Indian premier on the upcoming assumption of the presidency of the BRICS group in 2026, expressing a desire to enhance cooperation with the group's countries, especially in economic, financial, and monetary fields, to achieve development and prosperity for the member states' peoples. For his part, Modi asked Abdelatty to convey his greetings and appreciation to President Sisi, noting India's pride in the friendship with Egypt and the strategic partnership between the two nations. The Indian premier commended Egypt's efforts to support peace, security, and stability in the Middle East, appreciating the outcomes of the Sharm El Sheikh Peace Summit, which included the signing of a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
