Giza: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi witnessed the inauguration of the New Delta project on the Sheikh Zayed Axis in Giza, previously known as Dabaa Axis, on Sunday, May 17, 2026. The event marked the beginning of the wheat harvest season activities for the year 2026.According to State Information Service Egypt, President El-Sisi was received by several high-ranking officials, including Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly and Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Dr. Hussein Issa. Other dignitaries present included Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher, Minister of Defense and Military Production, and several government ministers and military leaders.The event commenced with a Quranic recitation, followed by the screening of a documentary film titled "The New Delta." Colonel Bahaa El-Ghannam, Executive Director of the Future of Egypt Authority for Sustainable Development, delivered a speech and inaugurated Water Pumping Station No. (3) Naba' via video conference.President El-Sisi highlighted the a chievements of the New Delta Project, attributing its success to divine grace and the efforts of the Egyptian people. He emphasized the project as a symbol of collaboration among state institutions and private sector participation, involving 150 agricultural companies and numerous others in various activities.The President detailed the project's financial scope, mentioning a total cost of nearly EGP 800 billion. This encompasses the construction of 12,000 kilometers of new roads and the challenge of sourcing water by treating agricultural drainage water from Delta governorates.The project required the construction of 19 main pumping stations to transport water uphill for cultivating 2.2 million feddans, alongside power stations with a total capacity of approximately 2,000 megawatts. President El-Sisi emphasized the integration of old and new agricultural lands to maximize productivity, focusing on traditional crops in fertile lands and high-quality crops like sugar beet in desert soils.The project is ex pected to generate around two million sustainable jobs, with private companies playing a key role in cultivation through agreements on target crops. President El-Sisi acknowledged the challenges of achieving self-sufficiency in all crops due to varying environmental factors and noted Egypt's reliance on imports for feed and wheat.During his inspection tour, President El-Sisi visited Pumping Station No. (3) Naba', observed industrial operations, and assessed wheat productivity. He concluded his visit by inspecting the sugar beet crop and taking a commemorative photo with project workers and attendees.
