Cairo: Today on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi spoke by phone with the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, stated that the call confirmed the deep ties between Egypt and South Africa, emphasizing development across various fields. Both presidents expressed satisfaction with the positive trajectory and highlighted the importance of further strengthening cooperation, particularly in the economic and trade sectors. They also stressed enhancing coordination in regional and international fora, including the African Union, the United Nations, and BRICS.
The conversation addressed the latest regional developments, with President Ramaphosa appreciating the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit and the agreement to end the war in the Gaza Strip. President El-Sisi emphasized the necessity of implementing the agreement's terms, ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid, and launching the reconstruction process. He noted Egypt's intention to host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza at the end of November 2025.
President Ramaphosa expressed South Africa's interest in participating in the conference and engaging in the reconstruction process, indicating a desire to coordinate closely with Egypt. Both presidents agreed on capitalizing on current political momentum to create conditions for a comprehensive peace process, aiming for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The call also explored ways to enhance peace and stability in Africa. The presidents affirmed their commitment to continuing joint action to end ongoing conflicts in several African countries, aiming for peaceful and sustainable resolutions to fulfill the aspirations of their peoples for development and prosperity.
