Cairo: Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli praised the level of work being implemented within the project to revitalize the 'Darb Al-Labbana' area, noting that it is being executed to the highest standards while preserving the urban character of the district. He directed that the project be completed quickly and instructed the governor of Cairo to support it by developing and upgrading the roads leading to the area, ensuring they are paved with interlocking bricks that are suitable for the local environment.
According to State Information Service Egypt, the premier's remarks came during his inspection of the restoration works in the Darb Al-Labbana area, which is part of a tour he started on Saturday to several project sites aimed at reviving Historic Cairo. Madbouli was briefed by Khaled Seddik, chairman of the Urban Development Fund, about the details of the revitalization of the area under the state's efforts to revive Historic Cairo, preserve its urban fabric, transform derelict spaces into buildings with a distinct architectural style, and revive Al-Rumeila Square Garden overlooking Al-Rifa'i and Sultan Hassan Mosques.
Seddik pointed out that the dilapidated buildings were restored and rebuilt while preserving the original facades and the vibrant urban fabric of the area, noting that the project implementation rate has reached 90%. He explained that the fund succeeded in revitalizing the area by constructing 29 properties in an architectural style consistent with the area's identity. Additionally, seven service and recreational facilities are being established, including a restaurant area, cafes, bazaars, and spaces for various recreational activities, with external finishing works currently underway.
He also noted that the unused Al-Mahmoudiya Garden, covering an area of 5,150 square meters, has been revived. The garden is currently being handed over to the entity responsible for its management and operation to ensure a civilized service is provided to visitors. The prime minister directed the speedy offering of units in the Darb Al-Labbana area, including hotel rooms and commercial shops, affirming that this area will enjoy great popularity and will represent an important addition to Egypt's tourist destinations, as it is located in the heart of an area that has witnessed important historical events.
