Cairo: Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman engaged in a significant dialogue on Sunday, September 6, 2026, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and addressing regional and international issues of mutual concern.
According to State Information Service Egypt, Abdelatty passed on President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's congratulations to President-elect Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on his recent electoral victory, as well as to Tarique Rahman for his appointment as prime minister following his party's success in the parliamentary elections.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister further extended his congratulations to Rahman on his election as president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, which is set to commence this September. He emphasized Egypt's eagerness to engage in ongoing consultations with him during his one-year term on a range of shared interests.
Abdelatty highlighted the critical role of the UN General Assembly in voicing the aspirations and priorities of developing nations, advocating for UN reforms, and bolstering global efforts to realize the Sustainable Development Goals.
Moreover, the ministers reviewed the comprehensive scope of bilateral relations, with Abdelatty noting the significance of advancing Egyptian-Bangladeshi relations through regular consultations, implementing existing memoranda of understanding, and exploring new collaboration opportunities in key sectors.
In particular, Abdelatty pointed out the potential for enhanced cooperation in pharmaceuticals, textiles and ready-made garments, aquaculture, and leather industries. He also stressed the importance of strengthening ties between the Suez Canal Economic Zone and economic zones in Bangladesh to boost trade, encourage mutual investments, and leverage the substantial economic potential of both nations.
The dialogue also covered recent regional developments. Abdelatty explained Egypt's proactive efforts to reduce tensions and mitigate the impacts of ongoing regional crises and conflicts, aiming to restore stability and prevent further escalation.
